Dear Parents,
Welcome to third grade at Lincoln Elementary School. We are excited about the 2014 - 2015 school year. The third grade staff is looking forward to serving you.
This week's skills (August 12)
Reading: Charlotte's Web
English: Writing
Math: Step Up - Learning multiplication
HOMEWORK- Please visit the homework tab. Homework is assigned nightly. Monday through Thursday in the areas of Language Arts, Math, and/or Social Studies/Science. Students are to read nightly, including weekends. Any written homework is to be done in homework journal (blue). Worksheets or workbook pages should be placed back in the homework f older (blue). Homework is checked daily in class and documented if it is not completed. Three missed homework assignments in the same subject area will result in a lowered participation grade.
TEST PAPERS- Test papers will be sent home most Tuesday's. This gives you time to go over any errors with your child before returning them to school. Please return them no later than Thursday. Please make any corrections in red.
CONFERENCES- I am available for conferences on Tues./Thurs. from 10:30 until 10:50. I am also available in the morning at 8:00 on Wednesdays for scheduled conferences.
SNACKS - Students are allowed to bring a nutritional snack to school. For example grapes, already cut apples, crackers and cheese, goldfish, pretzels, and popcorn. NO CANDY, CHIPS OR BOX DRINKS ARE ALLOWED.
Please keep the following in mind:
1. Read with your child every night for 20 minutes, this may be an Accelerated Reader book, a WEB, their textbook or one from their personal library. It's OK to read the same story a couple of times, but please read something in addition to our weekly reading story and don't forget to record the story on their reading log and please initial. :)
2. Flash vocabulary word cards nightly for about 10 minutes.
3. Flash math facts nightly for about 10 minutes.
4. As always, please go over homework with your children .
5. Practice reading fluency; because students are required to read a minimum of 110 words per minute by the end of third grade.
6. Please practice math facts daily. (students are given a two-minute timed test weekly)
7. Study vocabulary words and definitions.
